JHWF Fence Team could use a hand taking down buckrail fencing this weekend

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation (JHWF) Fence Team is teaming with the Bridger-Teton National Forest Blackrock District staff to remove dilapidated buck and rail fence along the Buffalo Valley Road.

The crew could use a hand or two this Saturday, July 28, to help with the effort. The project is average in difficulty (6 on a 1-10 scale). The work involves knocking down wooden buck and rails with mini-sledges, removing spikes, and carrying bucks and rails to cache piles. As such, there will be a bit more physical exertion than on a typical barbed wire fence pull.

Carpools will meet at 8am at the Home Ranch parking lot (northeast corner of Cache and Gill Avenue) and at 8:15am at the Blacktail Butte Road pullout near the Rock Face just north of Moose Junction. Half-day volunteers are welcome. The Fence Team will begin work at 9am and finish no later than 3pm after a lunch break (please bring your own lunch). JHWF will provide water, Gatorade, and snacks, but please bring your own water bottle or hydration packs for use in the field.

Gear: You should wear layered clothes, long pants, sturdy shoes, and bring a rain jacket. Sun or eyeglasses are also a must. Sun protection (hat and sunscreen lotion) is highly recommended. We also recommend that volunteers check the status of their tetanus shots, in case of scratches or punctures from spikes, which is very unlikely to occur. JHWF will provide work gloves and all tools.
